Community remembers Shafter church fellowship and barbecue traditions
Church members gather for annual fellowship as the Shafter United Methodist Church coordinates meat dishes beans and desserts. A brick lined pit and a 300 pound lid prompted repairs after a barbecue mishap and workers cooked meat at a Wasco plant. The church partners with Mexican Baptist and African American Wasco choirs for Vacation Bible School and shared singing.
