Mike Hutchinson, Shafter High School music teacher and Shafter Historical Society board member, donated items to the Depot Museum after salvaging a 1938 California license plate set, a 1910s Shafter telephone book, and a 1961 Kern County story during a prior cleanup. The Hitchcock Hotel six foot safe now sits in the agent's office as part of research toward national landmark status for the hotel. The Shafter Historical Society seeks anecdotes or pictures from the hotel era owned by Herndon and Marion Hitchcock.
