Time to run for the Shafter Recreation and Parks District Board as three seats are open. Visit the Kern County Election Department to submit papers. two seats are four-year terms and one is a two-year term.

4-H announces 2002 record book results with regional winners from Shafter and Maple schools. Beef Junior Medalist Tyler Thompson of Shafter and Junior Medalist Clint Kirschenmann of Maple led the list, along with Foods and Nutrition Junior Medalists Ana Ament Dee Ann Kroeker of Shafter and Joshua Scales of Maple. Lauren Ogle of Shafter won Home Junior City, while Maple fellows Ian Hagen and Tim Escalante claimed Horse Junior City. Shafter’s Bradley Kroeker earned Photography Senior City, with Hillary Bergen also a Shafter Junior Medalist.
As of August 2 2002 two people have filed for seats in Ay Ay Shafter Recreation & Parks Gilbert Alvarado seeks a long term seat and Johnny Yanez the short term. If incumbents do not file the nomination period may extend to August 14. Public notices invite inquiries to SAPD Angie Ruelas at 746 3303.
