Margaret Baker reports Toni Vierra advances to the State Junior Miss competition August 15 to 17 at Shafter High School after winning Shafter’s city title in April. She earned a $1,500 Shafter scholarship and competes for over $28,000 in cash awards. Toni plays the saxophone and showcased a jazz routine in April.

Shafter resident Nathan Penner has completed MCC orientation in Akron Pennsylvania and will begin a three year overseas assignment as an information program assistant in Botswana with MCC and the African Inter Mennonite Mission. Penner studied business administration at Fresno Pacific University and previously worked at Kern Appliance Computers in Bakersfield.
