Kern County Potato Crop Tops Six and Half Million
The Kern county agricultural commissioner reports the 1936 potato crop from Shafter and Wasco valued at about 6.5 million dollars. The bulletin notes shipments of 2796 carloads of potatoes, 862 of grapes, 853 of melons, and 183 of other fruits and vegetables, totaling 4694 cars. The potato harvest is complete with 8725 carloads, and officials doubt prices will be matched again. Cotton is growing well, with labor during harvest cited as the main concern.

Latta Party Member Dies Suddenly in Mexico
Tragedy strikes the Latta Party in Mexico as Robert J. Richards dies of an apparent diabetic coma in Hermosillo on July 22 after a long illness. Latta, Shafter high school instructor, reports Richards traveled with Estafano Fr. Larios and other relatives to visit family roots in Sonora. Richards, born 1859 in Monterey, leaves a wife and siblings in San Francisco Denver and Nogales.

Excavation for Brethren Church Completed and Construction Planned

Stolen Jars Found By Roadside Near Calder’s Corner
