Youth Center Planned for Kern County Forty
The city and ECEOC plan a new youth center on former Shafter Motel property donated by the Shafter Economic Development Department. Edward Velasquez says the project aims to provide a positive outlet and may expand to other Kern County sites with no-cost land. The grant was cut 25 percent from 1.8 million, forcing back filling with lower funds for a 20,000 square foot facility including a fitness center and computer lab.
