Child Garcia Died From Drowning After Canal Incident
The child identified as Garcia was rushed by Westar Ambulance to Kern Medical Center after treatment by Schaefer Ambulance staff in Shafter. He was on life support in critical condition before dying. Relatives were unaware children played at the canal. Kern County Coroner to list drowning as cause.

DRMC Offers CPR and First Aid Classes in August
Delano Regional Medical Center announces two community training sessions in the Scarlet Oak Room at 1401 Garces Highway. The CPR class runs August 14 from 8 a.m. to noon and covers adults children and infants. The four hour Medic First Aid course is August 21 from 8 a.m. to noon and includes 911 primary assessment airway management bleeding control shock illness and injury assessment. A current CPR card is required for the first aid class. Enrollment may be in both classes. Fee is 15 per person for either class. Contact the Education Department at 725-4800 ext 380.
