Boy Scout Saves Girl From River Plunge Rescue
Thirteen year old James Sherrill credits Boy Scout training for saving schoolmate Darlene Gallagher during a Kern River incident. Both seventh graders from Richland School attended a majorette picnic at Hart Memorial Park. A park attendant had said the river spot was safe for swimming when Darlene was swept by the current. James, in clothes, pulled her from the water and avoided needing artificial respiration. He is the son of William Sherrill and a member of Kiwanis Troop 59. Darlene is the daughter of Lu Gallagher.
