Shafter High School hosts a May 15 dinner fundraiser 5 to 8 pm on the school patio with a silent auction to support a spring 1994 Orlando trip. Cinco de Mayo queen candidates perform at Shafter High School Auditorium April 30 at 7 pm with dress displays, speeches, and escorts. tickets at the door. Carnival activities at North Kern Christian School Wasco on May 1 include BBQ from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, tickets $6.50 for adults, $3.50 kids, plus silent auction, live action, and a Giant Cinnamon Roll booth.

Vazquez named Cinco de Mayo grand marshal with ceremonies starting May 1 at 10 am. The theme is The Best of Both Worlds. Born June 26, 1948, he helped found the Mexican colony south of Shafter and is noted for his community work and education achievements.

Shafter Wins Court Action Over CDC Lease Withholding
