Local residents report lengthy delays amid ongoing road construction in Shafter. CalTrans crews resurface Central Valley Highway with traffic signal upgrades, while City of Shafter plans mid to late May resurfacing on six plus streets. The Central Valley Highway project may last 2 to 3 weeks, with Walker Street finishing by June.

A Sunday afternoon rollover crash near Shafter injured seven people after a white van ran a stop sign at Lerdo Highway and Magnolia Avenue. Two vehicles collided and rolled into an orchard. one occupant was ejected. CHP says speeds stayed within limit and alcohol or distraction were not factors. Witnesses aided victims, including a passing nurse.
Thieves broke into Anytime Fitness at 1160 E Lerdo Highway last weekend taking computer equipment printers and flat screen TVs valued at 12 000 to 15 000 dollars. Lockers were damaged and owner Richard Skaggs said the opening will not be hindered and a grand opening is planned. Police ask for information at 746-8500.
Families filled Manuel Park on April 20 and 21 for the American Crown Circus a weekend family event sponsored by the Shafter Kiwanis Club The performance drew over 500 parents and 2000 children for a fun filled show with thrills and surprises amid good clean entertainment.
