Canal Safety Program Aims to Reduce Drownings in Canals
Five Kern organizations launched a four color 12 page brochure to educate elementary students about canal drowning dangers. The Lamont Church Association and Kern County Canal & Water Company designed the material with the Kern County Safety Council and others distributing it at Mountain View Myrtle Avenue and Lamont Schools. William Paynter of the Safety Council called the effort the first step in ongoing education to prevent drownings in irrigation canals. A limited number of brochures are available on request from the Safety Council.
