Eleven-District Plan Rejected by State Board of Education
The State Board of Education in Sacramento rejected the eleven-district plan for unification of Kern County schools in favor of a nine-district plan by Ronald Cox. The nine-district plan would funnel about 50 million dollars of assessed valuation from the west side to Bakersfield, with no separate districts for Arvin or Kern Valley. If the nine-district plan fails, an area-wide tax would be levied. an election is planned for fall or winter in a combined county-wide vote, per Senate Bill 27.
