Shafter Readies Golden Anniversary Celebration
Shafter prepares for its Golden Anniversary with a three day event May 3 4 and 5 led by Ben Grundy chairman and Mayor Gaede. A parade with about 90 entrants opens at Central Avenue to Central Valley Highway with parade marshal Charlie Hitchcock and Pioneer Queen Dean Potter among pageant participants. A Friday memorial event at the Veterans Memorial starts at 9 am with pioneer displays at Hospitality House and a weekend of booths rides and entertainment at Civic Center park. Saturday features a junior women’s breakfast near Tops parking and a noon barbecue by the American Legion followed by concerts by Shafter and Richland High bands. Tickets available at booths and through Legion officials.
