Death of H. E. Unruh in Bakersfield area
H. E. Unruh, 83, died Tuesday afternoon in a Bakersfield hospital after a long illness. A Shafter pioneer since 1918, he is survived by his wife, six children, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services are Sunday at the Mennonite Brethren church in Shafter with Rev. H. D. Wiebe officiating.

Neufeld will join the council alongside incumbents Frank G. Shaw and William Rodgers. Outgoing Mayor Phil Channeson and H. Midgley, elected in 1938, retire. Nay Frizzell and Bill Lachenmaier will serve two more years. Mayor and council organization is slated for next Monday.

Martin Funeral Held Tuesday In Bakersfield
Charles Leroy Martin aged 60, longtime Rio Bravo district resident, died Saturday. The service was held Tuesday at Payne & Son chapel in Bakersfield with Masonic rites and Union Cemetery interment. Survived by widow Stella, two sons Franklin L and William Wesley, mother Winnie Martin, a brother T M Martin, and three sisters. He was active in Rio Bravo affairs and previously worked for Kern County and the Rio Bravo school.

Service Held for Long-Time Shafter Resident
Funeral service for Anna Nachtigale 79 was held Saturday at Janzen chapel near Shafter. Rev. Jay Fuller of the Pentecostal church officiated. Interment followed in Shafter cemetery. A Russian native, she had lived in Shafter 25 years and in the United States 37 years. Survived by husband John, a son John Jr. of Huntington Park, and daughters Annie Agnes and Elizabeth, all of Shafter.

California tax expert Fred E Stewart longtime member of the state board of equalization from the second district died Friday in Oakland at age 61.
