Fire claims life of three month old twin Debra Perkins
A cabin fire early Thursday killed Debra Perkins three months old while her twin brother and two older boys escaped. Neighbor Theron McCoy rushed inside to save them but Debra perished. Billy Wayne Perkins sustained minor burns. Mother left moments before the blaze. cause undetermined, suspected near a cooking stove. Father Bill Perkins works for Brown and Bryant.

Freedom Shrine Presented by Shafter Exchange Club
At an April 15 assembly the Exchange Club of Shafter presented a Freedom Shrine to Shafter High School. B. Willis Weekes led the ceremony with Stan Cook introducing him. Noel Wilson accepted for the student body. The shrine features 28 facsimiles of historic documents including the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, plus writings from Revolution to World War I, displayed in the Administration Building corridors.
