Shafter eyes McFarland annexation amid growth push
As Kern County expands, Shafter plans to annex land east of Highway 99 to broaden its tax base while preserving agriculture. Wasco and Shafter worry McFarland may seek to double its size, potentially affecting access near freeways and future business growth at Famosa and along Highway 46. Local officials note Elk Corp near completion of a roofing plant adding about 120 jobs.
