Dr. John B. Toomay former pastor of Wasco Congregational Church visited Tuesday at the Shafter Experimental Farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Scott McMichael. His son Michael, a Claremont High School senior, led the team as high point man and is regarded as one of Southern California’s top high school players. Jack, the elder son, has returned home with his wife and child after a season of pro basketball in the East. Ted, another son, attends College of the Pacific in Stockton where he resides with his wife and child.

After a regular rehearsal at Wasco First Baptist, choir director Mrs Arthur Ehrhorn was surprised with a birthday party. A side room held a cake, lighted tapers, and ice cream as the group presented a three tier canape server matching her china. The full choir of 31 members attended.

First Planting of New Cotton Strain Planned
The first official planting of a new cotton strain, possibly superior to acala 442, will occur at the J. G. Boswell ranch near Corcoran. George Harrison of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Shafter field station developed the improved strain, showing greater tensile strength and resistance to verticillium wilt. About two acres will be planted to test true isolation from other fields.

Program Planned May 5 Following Kern Home Tour
A fashion review will accompany the Kern County homes tour in the Shafter area on May 5. Donald Loewen, Wasco High student and junior class president, attended the Student Executive Council at Maricopa and will perform in the junior class play You Can t Take It With You next Friday in the high school auditorium.
