Officials say the design to loan more areas remains popular as a dedicated group pursues major furniture building and a Lanai class focuses on farm machinery repair. Earlier courses in art stenography and first aid have concluded and the program expects to continue.
Duplicate Easter services will be held at Union Congregational Church to accommodate worshippers. The early service is at 9 30 with Sunday School and God at the organ. Rev Gordon Baker will preach The Meaning of the Cross. Second Chance, a feature film in Hollywood for the national churches, will be shown at the evening service.
The cantata Christ Crucified will be presented at Seven Thirty Easter Sunday in Eolem Church. The Ebenezer Reformed Choir of Shafter and the Reformed Church of Bakor will perform with Mrs. Robert Stucbbe and Mrs. Behan also featured. The cantata sets to music the resurrection narrative of Jesus Our Lord Is Crucified and Glorified.
Easter services set for Sunday at 5 30 am in the county park with a program led by Rev. Joel A Wiebe and featuring choirs from Mennonite Brethren and First Baptist, a prayer by Rev. Chris Ummel and scripture read by Don Knowles.
More than 400 attendees witnessed the 1954 Junior Talent Show at Shafter High School on April 9. Lionel Nightingale won first prize in the high school division, and Diana Mettler won top honors in the elementary division for piano and accordion respectively.
Pete Neufeld son of Mr and Mrs C C Neufeld Route Box 44 Shafter California has reported to the Army Medical Center for advanced basic training at the Medical Training Center. He will be prepared for duty with the Army Medical Service at Brooke Army Medical Center. The center offers field medical care hospital ward management and five day field problem under combat conditions. Rrt Neufeld entered last Dec 16. His wife Barbara J Neufeld lives at 1034 W Weldon Fresno California.
Shafter members are urged to attend a Starlight Circle potluck luncheon on Monday April 19 at Averill Mouser's home 314 N Kern St. Attendees should bring a dish to share.
Bruce M. Crawford Richland School Superintendent attends the California Elementary School Administrators Association state conference in San Diego serving as chair of the section on Employing and Managing Certified and Non-Certified Personnel He is the newly elected President of the California Elementary School Administrators Central Section and head of San Joaquin Valley administrators for the coming year Also attending are O Clay Hale principal Richland Upper Grade School and other officials.
The Union Congregational Church will hold its 11th annual Good Friday Communion Service at 7:45 PM with Rev. Gordon J. Baker presiding. The program features sacred choral music, solos by Zaida Wood, a reception for new members, the Lord’s Supper, and a dramatic Seven Last Words from the Cross performed in dim sanctuary light.

H. R. Hammond has been elected Recording Secretary of the Kern County Elementary Administrators Association. Hammond’s peers cited his dedication to educational leadership and service to district programs in recognizing his new post.
In a solo city election, W H Bill Johnston defeats Calvin Fowler for city clerk 321 to 208. Mayor Adolf Kirschenmann and George H Grundy win council seats with 437 and 417 votes respectively. Treasurer Bill Ware re-elected with 485 votes as 548 voters cast ballots. The four year terms begin after canvass and next council meeting selects mayor.
Community event outlines entry rules for the Civic Flower Show on April 22 with divisions for grades 4-8, entry times, show hours, and judging by Mrs. Eckmann and Mrs. Wesley Ubacher. It lists prize structure, group classifications for arrangements and horticulture, and notes on exhibit requirements and pick up.
Local planning for the 33rd annual Public Schools Week runs April 26 to May 1 with a new committee for the Shafter-Waste area to organize a well rounded program. The event carries the theme The Public Schools An American Heritage and follows the 1953 George Washington Medal of the Freedoms Foundation awarded at Valley Forge. The local committee aims to exceed last year's visitor turnout by promoting school programs during the week.

Kern County Board of Trade officials urged May 17-22 as Kern County Potato and Cotton Festival Week to honor an $87,000,000 cotton crop and $20,000,000 potato crop. Shafter Chamber President Bob Bann announced the plan and urged countywide participation, with activities culminating in Shafter and coordinated observances across the county.
