Twenty Five Set For Talent Show At Shafter High
Tomorrow night at 730 p.m the sixth annual Junior Talent Show is staged in the Shafter High School gym. The Class of 1955, guided by advisor Robert Jes, has arranged 25 acts from local students and groups. Master of Ceremonies Jim Hayden of KBIS returns to introduce a diverse program including instrumental numbers, magic, vocal solos, song and dance. Judges Bob Bann of KWSO, Glen Hold from Tracey’s Music, and Clintor Young of Wasco High will pick winners and prizes. Guest performers include last year’s top monologue winner Karen Burnquist and Shafter High Glee Club under Merlin Hanchett, performing Beside the Still Waters Afar on a Purple Moon Were You There. Seven committees, led by Robert Millwee, plan the event with Sue Howell on programs and prizes Virginia Taylor on publicity, and La Velle Stoller coordinating tickets.

Shafter voters go to the polls Tuesday April 13 to decide the city clerk race between Calvin Fowler, 28, PG&E employee, and W H Bill Johnston, 41, former Justeon’s Store manager and current assistant city clerk. Incumbents Mayor Adolf Kirschenmann and Ben Grundy run for re election, with Bert Ware also seeking the treasurer post. All four precincts consolidate to one polling place at Legion Hall Veterans Memorial Building. Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

J C Atkinson filed for the Richland School Board trustee post in the May 21 election. A SHAF CO manager and 1947 Army veteran, he has lived in Shafter since then and serves as Sunday School superintendent at First Baptist Church. Maple School Band Captures First at Regional Music Festival
Maple School band of twenty nine under Anthony Desiderio earned a first place rating from three judges at the fifteenth annual festival in Bakersfield Clo vis Exeter. The group performed Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord Premier Tschaikowsky Fifth Symphony Barber of Seville and William Tell excerpts. Desiderio will lead new members for a May 6 area festival at Belridge School with groups from four schools.

Chambers Promote County Cooperation At Shafter Meeting
