Local City Council Reelected in California City Election
Voters in Shafter California's newly incorporated city returned the five councilmen elected at incorporation. Six candidates competed for council seats. Frank Shaw won city clerk with 112 votes, Ray Dye incumbent 60, Walter Zimmerman 9. F. L. Hudson unopposed as treasurer. 182 ballots cast at the American Legion hall. Phil Ohanneson and H. Midgley were top vote-getters. two-year terms for Strom Nay and Fair, four-year for Ohanneson and Midgley. Election officers named: Julia Potter inspector, Earl Crandall judge, H. R. Janzen and Dean Potter clerks.

Mrs. S. P. Shultz Dies After Illness at 54
Mrs. Sam P. Shultz, a Shafter social figure, died Wednesday morning in a Bakersfield hospital at age 54 after a lengthy illness. She had undergone an operation Tuesday, her body was taken to Janzen Funeral Home, with funeral services planned for next Tuesday at the Mennonite Brethren church. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Bakersfield. She had lived in Shafter since 1920, coming from Hillsboro Kansas, born February 12 1884, survived by husband four sons and six daughters, two grandchildren and several siblings.

Last Rites for Rev P P Rempel Held in Bakersfield
The Rev Peter P Rempel 72 was buried Sunday in Greenlawn Memorial Park Bakersfield after funeral services at the Mennonite Brethren church. He helped grow the Shafter church from 1918 and was the Pacific coast’s only living ordained elder. He died early Thursday after months of ill health. He is survived by his widow.
