Governor Office of Emergency Services designates April 8 14 as Schools Preparedness Week in Shafter California urging drills and home and classroom safety. Children and adults learn Duck Cover and Hold with safe exits and routine six month drills across homes schools and public spaces.
Maple School District invites applications for grades K through 8 for the 2001 02 school year. The district promotes high test scores, individual attention, a strong sports program, and a small, protected environment calling itself Where Excellence in Education is a Tradition. About 600 entries from 117 schools entered the Kern County Science Fair at Bakersfield Convention Center. Rio-Bravo-Greeley School earned two firsts with Noelle Penner in Plant Biology and Craig Nikkel in Earth Sciences, while others from the same school also placed. Buttonwillow and North Kern Christian School winners earned ribbons and honors advancing toward the 50th state science fair in Los Angeles May 21 to 22.
