Shafter to Host July Gospel Sing at Manuel Park
Shafter officials approved a park use permit for a July 4th Gospel Sing at Manuel Park run by Upstage Productions and sponsored by the Church of Christ. About 5,000 people from Kern County and California are expected, with a finale at the football stadium. A video project titled A Day in the Life of America is planned. Mayor Cathy Prout praised the potential community impact while discussing park use and Earth Day activities. The council also formed a solid waste task force and approved Earth Day proclamation, plus a resolution backing a University of California campus in Kern County amid 64 site options.
