About 150 Kern County Shriners and Blue Lodge members will tee off Friday April 12 in the 6th annual Kern County Shrine Club Golf Tournament at Stockdale Country Club. Shafter members will participate. A steak barbecue and show follows at 7 p.m. at the club house.
The Exchange Club of Shafter initiated Ray Jones of Richland Chevrolet Co. and LaVerne Kliewer of Ernest Adamson Trucking at Thursday noon’s meeting at the Canelo hotel. Joseph Wooldridge and C Arthur Sanford assisted. a joint meeting with Wasco is set for April 18 with Frank Gifford as guest speaker. The note adds that children dyed eggs Tuesday morning morrow.
Bakersfield Speedway will open Saturday April 20 with a National Championship late model stock car event on a quarter mile track. Preliminary races start 7:00 p.m. and main event at 8:30 p.m. Notables include Jim Reed, Eddie Pagan and Frank Secrist.
W R Van Liere was appointed Vice President and General Sales Manager of the Pacific Guano Company. He will oversee GRO fertilizer and the companys agricultural chemicals seeds and Gaviota Garden Products. Mrs Hewitt cited his extensive fertilizer knowledge and experience. In a separate note, Junior Women's Club members attended a Bakersfield Juniors meeting where Mrs J Dee Logan spoke.
Central California Rotarians attended the Annual District Assembly for Rotary District 159 in Paso Roblés. Shafter Club members included President George W. Collins and Secretary Marvin Neuman as part of the broad turnout. The meeting outlined duties for newly elected officers and provided Rotary briefings.
Shafter Play Center director Mrs. Frank Roselle announces a combined education and business meeting on Thursday April 25 at 9 30 a m at the home of Mrs. Donald Christensen 245 Pacific Avenue. A film A Long Time To Grow in two parts covers children ages two to three and four to five. The film is produced by the department of child studies at Vassar College. Public invited with no nursery school.
