Local Teacher Narrow Escape in Motor Car Crash
Miss Amelia Finch narrowly escaped serious injury in a Sunday car crash along with Miss Marion Littlefield a former Shafter teacher and a friend from Earlimart. They were returning from a trip to San Jose when a stripped-down car swerved across their path and caused a collision into a river. Littlefield was unconscious for over an hour but all escaped serious harm.

Santa Fe Officials Inspect Local Rail Yard Work
High officials from the Bakersfield division of the Santa Fe Railroad visited Shafter last Friday to review track improvements and new warehouse construction. Leading the party was G. W. Road Top Soon Laid in Shafter
The Southern California Roads Company began oiling the preliminary coal at the Shafter road site this week, with grading south of Central Avenue completed and a small section north of Central to Richland corners needing finish. 61 workers are on site, 36 000 cubic yards of barrow pit dirt were moved for adhesion and low alkali content, and about 9825 tons of road mix surfacing from Kern Rock Company will be delivered as needed to start laying rock early next week.

Three Sisters Reunion in Shafter Draws Local Family
Three sisters held a reunion in Shafter on Sunday. Mrs. H G Reif Mrs R P Dorman and Mrs H G Comfort gathered with Mr and Mrs H G Reif driving from Paso Robles. Mrs Dorman flew from Rutherford New Jersey and reported storms blizzards and rough cross country travel across California including the Sierra. Mrs Dorman is the wife of Bob Dorman who is general manager at Acme News Pictures Scripps Howard in New York.

Three Shafter sportsmen T mettle and John Lachenmaier headed to Santa Catalina island to shoot wild goats despite a 60 mile gale at Wilmington. The voyage faced seasickness. hunting was poor Friday but improved Sunday as they retrieved their rifles and reported good shooting and an entertaining trip.

Night Off Duty Fight With Suspect Ends in Jail
Deputy Constable A E Annis pursued Tommy Winnis Trantham after catching him stealing gasoline. The suspect broke away multiple times, ducking into a wind mill and Santa Fe yards before Annis clubbed him and escorted him to jail. Trantham, intoxicated, was sentenced to 30 days in Kern county jail.

Railroad Man Hurt Here Monday in Fresno Incident
While laying steel in the Santa Fe yards Monday Frank N Munsey was struck on the left cheek by a metal particle penetrating the skin. He was taken to a Fresno physician where the steel fragment was removed. The close proximity to his eye prompted the decision to send him away from the spike being driven in the new Richland switch.

Little Girl Dies After Illness of Two Weeks
Marelene Ruth Giesbrecht aged one and a half died last Saturday in Mercy hospital after a two week illness. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Giesbrecht. A funeral service was held Monday at the Mennonite Brethren church with a special service at the home for the elderly grandfather who is seriously ill. She is survived by her parents a brother Bernard and a grandfather. Burial was in Shafter cemetery with Janzen Funeral in charge.

Shafter Men Sentenced Six Months in County Jail
On complaint by M. Ray of Wasco, R B Daily and William Tabor of Shafter were arrested and pleaded guilty before Judge W G Allery in Wasco. They admitted stealing gasoline tires tubes and automobile rims and were sentenced to six months in the county jail with commitment to Bakersfield.
