Galaphe secretary treasurer of S.A. Camp Companies was honored at a retirement party at Stockdale Country Club last Thursday. About 200 guests attended the dinner dance hosted by Jim Camp and family along with Bakersfield Mayor Don Hart and others. Thomas served 22 years with Bank of America and 10 years as Shafter Branch manager before joining S.A. Camp Companies February 2, 1943. President Jim Camp praised his long service and recalled offering resignation after World War II, but he was urged to stay and continue as a consultant with an office at headquarters.
Shafter prepares to launch a year around Head Start with 40 pupils and 2 staff vacancies filled. The program runs 8:30 am to 12:45 pm at Scout Hall with emphasis on parent participation and health services. Enrollment for 1970-71 opens later. summer recruiting planned.
Annual Shafter Fire Department report shows 1969 fire losses of 4 390 dollars and 53 alarms, with 15 vehicle fires and 9 dwelling blazes. Inspection hours totaled about 1180, contributing to lower losses than 1968. One injury occurred, no deaths, and most incidents were minor with several controlled before equipment arrived.
