Taft Man Fined For Drunkenness And Reckless Driving
Ross Able of Taft appeared before Judge E. K. Grant on charges of drunkenness and reckless driving after an accident. War Assets Administration officials stated no commitments have been made to any group for disposal of buildings at Minter Field despite the site being declared surplus. Shafter Man Confesses to Armed Robbery Charge
Hershell Austin aged 20 confessed to an armed robbery in Shafter. He was arrested March 26 and jailed in Bakersfield for arraignment in Superior Court after a barricade of old auto parts and camouflage was used to block Mayers avenue. Austin fired a 22 rifle at Andy Sharp and his son Bill who escaped, with evidence including tire tracks, footprints, and a car matching the scene.
