The Gost County repeal election cost about fourteen cents per ballot with total spending near $1,000, offset by an expected $100 unspent. Expenses peaked at the boards in 37 precincts with inspectors and clerks, rent where applicable, meals, and printing. A total of 6,282 ballots were cast with 5,799 for and 2,483 against ratification.
Miner Walters and Mark Reynolds, both of North Vernon, are jailed for one to five years for looting a box car in Jennings county. Guy Walters remains at large after the robbery. Reynolds and Minor Walters were arrested in Columbus by Sheriff J. W. Foust while trying to sell a rug linked to the loot.
US Army trucks loaded with supplies for two batteries of Third Field Artillery camped in Shields Park Wednesday night on a route from Fort Harrison Indianapolis to Camp Knox Kentucky. Captain Leach led the convoy which left at 6:45 this morning on U S Road 31 to complete the journey back to Fort Harrison.
A truck driver stopping at Estel Kerrick’s filling station on East Tipton street found a purse containing 201 dollars after a chat with the station operator. The driver, en route from Grand Rapids to Louisville with vegetables, had never learned Kerrick’s name.
City engineers draw up plans for a proposed Seymour swimming pool to qualify for a loan from the Federal Reconstruction Finance Corporation. City attorney leads loan negotiations while site selection awaits a board decision, with two parks likely candidates.
Private funeral services for Mrs. S. Zollman of Bedford were held at 2 p.m. today from the home with Rev. C. B. Black officiating. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery. The service was attended only by close relatives and friends in accordance with her wishes. Mrs. Zollman died Tuesday night after a four week illness. She is aunt to W. H. Hughes Mrs. Vint Lanier and Mrs. Clarence Goss of Seymour.
The Indiana Supreme Court granted a stay of execution for Harley Edwards of Bedford. He was sentenced to death for the 1932 murder of his wife near Mitchell. The stay extends until March 2, 1934, due to an incomplete appeal. Edwards was scheduled to die July 14 at Michigan City Prison.
Remodeling of the Stoll station at 524 East Tipton Street has begun under John A. Shields, supervisor for Denny Co. South Central district. W J Abraham of this city holds the remodeling contract. A dock and interior storage are added to handle shipments. Howard More oversees local delivery. M S Denny, company president, visited and praised the plan.
Shut-In Day was observed in Seymour with flowers sent to local businesses and shut in residents. The We. T. A. of Seymour sent a bouquet to The Tribune office. The Majestic Theatre offers five dollars in cash prizes Friday night and will continue the promotion.

Local Veterans of Foreign Wars from Seymour join others in Madison for the 12th annual Indiana VFW Department encampment. Delegates from Seymour include Arthur Morgan and Mike Herron with Hermann and Arbuckle families attending. the Seymour drum and bugle corps will march in the convention parade hosted by Weber Warren Lewis post 1969.
Harringtons Nickle Plate circus opens in this city next Tuesday with a B and O lot setup. Three rings feature clowns aerial artists wild animals trained goats monkeys ponies and acrobatic dogs. Mr Harrington will present educated horses as part of the first circus here this season.
Jackson county delegates Thomas H. Branaman and Judge O H Montgomery will join 244 wet and 83 dry delegates in Indianapolis on June 26 to cast Indiana s two votes for ratification. The repeal convention will be held in the House with Lieutenant Governor Townsend presiding. a $5,000 appropriation covers costs.
About 150 attendees gathered Wednesday night at Reddington Christian Church for the Redding Township Farm Bureau regular meeting. George Fox led a brief business session while Mrs. Carl Fox directed the program hour featuring a three act play Golden Kernels by twenty club members. The Fox Orchestra performed earlier and again after the play before refreshments.
Frank Murphy, former Detroit mayor, assumed the post of Governor General of the Philippines in Manila on June 15. He stated that the question of preferred independence is for Filipinos to decide and that he will take no part in the matter.
London reports a possible deal at the world economic conference after the vote for the monetary committee chair. James M. Cox moved to lead the committee with French support and a dollar stabilization pledge discussed between Hull Bonnet and Warburg.
The 1. O. O. F. lodge will hold its next annual meeting in Seymour following a district gathering at Ellettsville this week. Jackson county members attended along with representatives from Lawrence Brown and Monroe counties. The Bedford seven man degree team conferred the second degree on a large class of candidates and the social hour closed the meeting led by the Rebekah Lodge of Ellettsville.
Captain William P Wright national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic was found dead in a hotel room in Pittsburgh during a visit to the Pennsylvania department encampment He was 55 years old Wright had addressed veterans and auxiliary groups the previous night in Pittsburgh and was in town for the G A R annual gathering
Philadelphia police arrest Richard Bach twenty three after months of detective work in the murder of Rose McCloskey nineteen year old salesgirl. Her battered body was found in a secluded section of Fairmount Park last January.
Washington reports the Senate voted 51 to 39 to add the Cutting Steiner liberalizing amendment to the veterans bill, forcing a veto. The House delayed action awaiting Democratic caucus, with administration leaders expecting defeat and hoping to speed adjournment for a round trip to the White House. President Roosevelt planned a summer stay to attend John Roosevelt’s Groton graduation.
Seymour postal authorities received warning from postal inspector W. KR. Briggs about money order forgeries linked to stolen orders from Caledonia Minnesota. A 33 year old blond woman about five six dressed in blue posed in Boston department stores using a monthly statement to present a money order for 25 dollars and pay bills after cash exchanges.
France again defaults on its 40 million dollar debt installment due today while Britain pays ten million in silver on its large total. Italy offers a one million dollar token payment. Roosevelt says Britain may submit revised proposals for Congress review as Paris signals a deferment of 60 million dollars in principal and interest.
