Roosevelts Support Seals Local Republican Control
In New York City Republican primaries yesterday the Roosevelt Higgins faction backed by Herbert Parsons and the county committee won a majority of districts and will keep control of the county organization. Odell faces ouster unless he wins upstate districts. Higgins’ renomination appears likely amid rivalries with Odell and Platt and Hughes backing from the Hughes camp.

Portland Sails Westward Bringing Mail Rescued Freight
Steamer Portland reached Seward at 8 30 pm after calling at five small ports from Valdez. The 56 hour voyage carried fifteen passengers and about thirty tons of local cargo and she departed for Seldovia and Kodiak shortly after midnight. Reports from Valdez indicated the Oregon was sunk with a large bottom hole, while the Portland hoped to save most cargo despite no news from the ocean steamer.

Dredging for Gold in Low Grade Gravels
Mining with dredgers expands gold output worldwide by exploiting very low grade gravels. California and Alaska show wide variances in yield, with twelve pans to the cent promising large fortunes in some districts. The Klondike, New Zealand, Africa, and India see global adoption, while old mining sites and Chinese methods mix with modern machinery. Communities debate profits and grounds, noting Bear Creek’s 24 hour Klondike record and Alaska’s vast gold-bearing gravel potential.

Toledo Steamer Arrives With Lumber Trade Hopes
The steamer Toledo arrived in Seward with a cargo of Aurora lumber bound for the Reynolds copper mine at Latouche. Captain Shaw of the Tyonic will tow the vessel out, with Captain Blodgett aboard but due back in Seldovia. The Toledo carried thirty passengers and reported miners from Yentna awaiting at Seldovia to go outside on the Portland. Local merchants push Blodgett to run the Inlet steamer Tyonic from Seward to Prince William Sound ports. Dr Daggett secured an agreement to try the plan if expenses look favorable. the boat could run all winter if it breaks even. Seward merchants anticipate stronger trade in Sound ports, as agreements to ship on the Tyonic were signed by most town merchants. A minister was shocked when a young lady declined introductions to parishioners. She retorted that mingling with them would be in heaven soon anyway. Eat what you please Breathlets from A B Drug Co.
