About 40 men employed with work rushed to complete two tunnels and a rock wall near the Maske canyon. A Republican territorial convention is planned in the city with primaries on May 25 and a delegate race in Alaska noted.
The Valdez Prospector reports Baldwin party progress on the Alaska Central line from Fort Tank to Susitna area with preliminary surveying before reaching Grud pass. The group, including Jo Prenk Wailer and SVs Benne, traversed the valley and wintered along the route. Standard Copper Company figures, Jossourke and Le Steele, arrived at Landlock Bay to begin preparatory construction for mining operations with lumber, a wharf, buildings, and machinery planned ahead of ore shipping.
At Tyoonok at least 150 men are whip sawing lumber to construct boats. The craft will sail up the river to the Yentna district or the upper Susitna where heavy prospecting is planned this year.
The Susitna River opened around May 15 with reports from Alaska venture engineers confirming the early opening. Steamer Dora reached port Saturday evening with passengers from Dutch Harbor to Valdez. The voyage lasted twenty days westward with rough seas around the Alaska peninsula. The vessel sailed for Valdez after midnight Sunday. a gasoline launch from Seattle accompanied the trip. Captain Carl C. Gunter commanded the Dora. Also noted, the Tazlina river bridge on the Valdez Fairbanks trail nears completion with a main span of 120 feet and an estimated cost of $20,000.
