In St. Petersburg on May 11 Parliament opened with the czar’s address met in absolute silence and no applause. Mourouitseff was elected president amid cheers. Toledo Visits Seward With Engineer Party Onboard
The Inlet steamer Toledo appeared in Seward harbor on Tuesday, Capt. Shaw at the helm, succeeding on the T. Mate Brown now captains. The trip brought L. J. Caswell’s party of nineteen Alaska Central engineers who mapped the Chickaloon railroad branch. The Toledo carried mail from Knik, sailed to Orca to fetch about thirty five men, then returned from Orca to Seward in under forty two hours, and will head up Knik Arm again to bring coal for Orca with a new crew of prospectors and outfits heading west.

Steamer Oregon Arrives With Passengers and Cargo
The Steamer Oregon reached port at 2 o clock yesterday with eighteen cabin and ninety five steerage passengers. It carried 160 tons of cargo and will sail back this morning. It brought two weeks of Seattle mail from the Edith run. Also notes include Bedrock found at 65 feet in Cooper gulch near Nome and a San Francisco earthquake affecting Grant's Pass, Oregon. The National Association of letter carriers protests against the dinky society envelope and the new cruiser Washington’s trial run achieved 22.37 knots.
