Advices from President A. C. Frost indicate the Snow and Watson contract will complete the Alaska Central Railway to mile seventy five on the north side of Turnagain. Railroad work will be commenced and pushed all summer under Cable reporting from Seattle.
A White House conference on March 13 debated future railroad regulation and hinted at sweeping changes to anti trust laws. Key officials discussed planned actions and regulatory overhauls affecting the railroad industry and competition safeguards.
Mayor Schmitz was released on a $150,000 bond last night. The extortion charges against him, not yet tried, were dismissed. Also, James Parmalee, former purser on the steamer Portland, died in Seattle after long illness. Major Richardson is due in Seattle to preside over the Alaska Board meeting on $250,000 annual road grants. The Senate approved a post office appropriation bill totaling $222,000,000, the largest for that purpose to date.
Old Volcano gets move on as Alaska home rule bill advances. Delegate Cale secures backing from Rep Sulzer and Gov Hoggatt to attend the hearing set for March 19 in Washington. Captain Z Moore reports a dramatic eruption from St Augustine volcano near Chonobora Island seen sixty three miles away.
Washington March 13 Delegate Thomas Cale expresses frustration at slow action in Congress. The committee delays a fourth judicial division for Alaska, pushing the issue into the future and not scheduled for consideration before April 10.

In San Francisco the U S Circuit Court of Appeals upholds an Alaska case Lorraine vs Werner and Morgeau over a $2500 loan at 3 percent monthly with usury defense rejected and judgment affirmed.
Tokio reports an ultimatum to China over the seizure of the Japanese steamer Tatsu Maru. The Niphon government rushes naval preparations for possible emergency as China weighs its response anticipated in several days.
The schooner John F. Miller wrecked at Jekatan Peninsula Unimak Island on January 8. Thirty-one aboard, ten perished from exposure. San Francisco reports the Czarina arrived with details. Miller left November 23, 1907.
Governor George E. Chamberlain will attend the Seattle Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition and lead ceremonies for breaking ground on the Oregon building. Ballinger expects passage of Delegate Cal’s coal land bill with Roosevelt’s favorable stance. The bill allows purchase of up to 2,560 acres of coal lands at ten dollars per acre without conveying surface or other minerals, and limits operations within Interior Department rules.
The Geological party in charge of Weatherspoon and Covert will sail from here on the steamer Yucatan Monday the 16th. Their mission is to study copper deposits and watersheds in the Copper River district.

A wireless message from San Diego states Rear-Admiral Robley D. Evens arrived yesterday afternoon at Magdalena Bay with the fleet, four days ahead of schedule. Seattle archaeologist Edgar L. Hewett, touring the coast, advocates funding to study early migration from Asia and the origin of American aborigines. Hewett plans to form a funding nucleus before leaving Seattle.
Unappropriated lands excluded from the Chugach National Alaska forest reserve will open to settlement on June 1 with first entry rights available one month later. The move announced by Cable to The Daily Gateway notes the eligibility for ten homesteaders under the new program.
