The Board of Trade chaired by the committee announced the Roanoke steamer will join the Alaska trade plan. A favorable report on Saturday's work nearly closed the contract with Mr. Doe, with the vessel ready for immediate use or next voyage from San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Roanoke will run Portland to Valdez and Dutch Harbor, then proceed to New York before returning to this city.
The Melville Dollar, trading under Cynaiy Fosen, reached port Monday with 207 tons of rerigin cargo including 100,000 feet of last material and 1,000 Rosier coal for the Royal Lumber and Fuel Company. It also carried 120,000 bricks plaster sash doors and other construction supplies for local merchants. The vessel sailed at noon today for Seattle.
Among Santa Ana passengers was C L Vawter deputy U S marshal at Unga taking Thom Devine to Valdez for trial in the U S district court on incest charges. The two young girls said to be Devine's victims rode along. Devine, an Unga veteran, was bound over by Commissioner Dunfield. Marshal Vawter, former Nome U S marshal, travels with Mrs Vawter.
