Judge Wickersham Defends Ten Charges in Alaska Probe
Alaskans and Congress members praise Judge Wickersham’s sworn answers to ten charges. He denies accepting a lot gift from Capt Barnette, contends a lot was staked out, and notes a cabin built before townsite platted. He cites reversed decisions, deputy appointment by another official, and argues harassment amid ongoing Tacoma harbor case. He refutes bias toward Chinese, perjury claim by a witness who later recanted, and disputes saloon or gambling concerns as misdirected. The clipping suggests Senate demand for accusers’ names or withdrawal of charges.
