Senator Allison’s Help Praises In Panama Bill Passage

Waterloo residents hail Senator Allison for pushing the $10,000 relief measure for Pemroke Banton, a Waterloo yardmaster who was injured in the Panama camp zone. The bill passed in the Senate amid initial opposition, with Representative Birdsall set to handle the related House action. Banton, once a top canal worker, was injured when a jack failed while lifting an engine, leaving him with a broken back. Live Stock Farming Practices In The Corn Belt

On average breeding farms in the corn belt, corn and hay form the core feed, with pasture in summer. Winter requires substantial grain, preferably balanced with oats and bran. Calves need protein rich grains, clover or alfalfa roughage, and careful management of water, exercise, and shelter. Bulls, heifers, and cows require space, routine feeding, and attention to feet and horns. Prevention of scours, avoiding carbonaceous foods for young stock, and selective culling guide a profitable herd with emphasis on good breeding and market-oriented planning. Regular liquidation of non breeders and prudent use of new blood help maintain herd strength, with auctions for older calves.
