Real Purpose Behind Iowa Railroad Vote Revealed
Andrew Stevenson, promoter of the Waterloo to Des Moines railway, refutes Webster City reports on right of way issues. He notes Radcliffe Story City taxpayers favored a tax and right of way, while Misworth Jewel Junction Randall Holand feared Radcliffe Story City would be boosted. He argues local opposition stemmed from rumor and self interest, not the project’s value. The railroad officials see supportive local sentiment where benefits are clear, and opposition where it is not wanted.
