A Valuable Train Shipment Through Webster City

The Webster City Journal reports a highly valuable four car silk shipment from the Mikado's empire passed through Webster City to the east on Illinois Central Monday night. Guards accompanied the baggage cars under American Express messengers. Each car carried hundreds of thousands of dollars in silk and the run on the Cherokee Omaha division matched the railroad's fastest passenger train pace. At every terminal the rail line inspected the shipment to rule out thefts before transfer to Illinois Central in Omaha.
