From Jan 12 to Sept 1 her 133 hens laid 2394 eggs and hatched or raised many chicks, yielding $385.95 in sales by Sept 1 1909. She started with 30 Buff Wyandottes and 8 Rhode Island Reds pullets and kept hens for eggs and meat.

Old Settlers Meeting Announces September Program 1909
The old settlers plan a two day gathering on September 18 and 19 near Charlie Wright’s timber road route from Welch’s to Louie Broer’s. Events include an Address of Welcome, talks on early Hardin County days, an Indian scare, a Dakota trip, Navy Stammer, Sunday school and services, election of officers, and a communal coffee break with self-serve cups. Lightning Strikes Perkins Barn Sparks Narrow Escape
Sunday night a lightning bolt struck the light wire from G. C. Perkins residence to his barn. The copper wire inside the insulation was burned away but the rubber remained intact. The storm caused minor roof damage and small areas on the barn wall while the fire was put out before the fire company arrived.

Young Iowa Falls mayor leads anti spit crusade
A hardin County boy, Mayor Bryson of Iowa Falls, is spotlighted as a 31 year old youngest mayor in the state and a champion of the anti spit crusade against disease and tuberculosis. He is an attorney born in Ackley, serving a second term, and pushed an ordinance banning patent medicine samples from the city, which was quickly passed and enforced.
