Bigger and Better Hardin County Fair Opens Soon
The thirty ninth annual Hardin County Fair in Eldora runs four days starting September 14. Attractions include Western Vaudeville Association of Chicago, racing with Norve A and Don Rome, pony Mead as starter, bands from Iowa Falls New Providence Alden and Ellis, stock judge W S Kennedy of Ames, North Dakota grain exhibit, and a school and art display. Admission is 35 cents with in and out passage.

Woman Burned to Death Near Ackley
Mrs. Carlsen Vanderwerf of about ten miles southeast of Ackley died after setting herself on fire Saturday. She had suffered mental distress for years. Left alone at home with others away, she saturated her clothing with kerosene and struck a match, sustaining horrific burns. She survived until after midnight. Ackley World.

Eldora Bas e Ball Season Ends After 69 Games
Eldora finished its first organized season with 42 wins and 27 losses across 69 games. The club, led by manager Kirk after July and formed by directors C C S S Newcomer, C F Stauffer, T W Burlingame, Charles Scurry, James Bales, and Robert Todd, faced financing hurdles but remains optimistic for next year. They played Humboldt, Charles City, Clear Lake, Albia, Buxton, St Paul Gophers, Union, Colfax, Mt Vernon, and others, with Buxton’s 6 to 5 victory in the final game August 31.

City Council approves two mill levy for Farrell case
The city council voted a two mill tax to cover a $500 district and supreme court judgment from the Farrell personal injury case. Steel fireproof cars for C N W Railway ordered
The Chicago and North Western Railway announces orders for 125 steel fireproof coaches and cars across dining parlor and baggage types, all with reinforced steel frames, safety vestibules, Westinghouse air brakes, sanitary floors, and no combustible materials. Dining cars seat thirty six, kitchens redesigned for capacity, and five foot longer day coaches and reclining chairs. Pacific Type locomotives also under construction for through trains, with delivery in two to three months. The project supports a new Chicago terminal and expanded service across the region.
