A decided change to cooler weather occurred Wednesday morning following Tuesday night rain. A heavy frost formed Wednesday. The early morning train from the north over the Town Central was several hours late, causing many citizens intending to board it for the St. Louis exposition a tedious wait. it finally arrived about :50.
A half week record from The Herald notes C. J. Patterson of Iowa Falls and E. P. Andrews of Hampton in town on business. Several others travel for fairs, expositions, visits, or to see relatives in Illinois and Missouri. Local residents like Miss Jessie Frank and Imma Slack also appear in town or depart for Des Moines and Des Moines area for the winter.
The Republican parties of Black Hawk county and the Pard district announce a large rally at Waterloo next Tuesday afternoon and evening October 11. Senator Pairbanks, nominee for vice president, will speak for a half hour, joined by Senators Allison and Dolliver and Representatives Cousins Walter I. Smith 2.2. Birdsall Guy Cummins Ion. M.D. OConnell and Son KK. G. Spence. Aimed at energizing voters across the district.
A vintage advertisement notes Gay McCail and Elizabeth MacMil lan in Victoria along with W. F. Wood of Waterloo and more. Dr. B. E. Purcell offers practice limited to eye ear nose and throat at emergency hospital on September 6 and 20. The ad claims indigestion and aches can be relieved by a timely Rocky Mountain Tea from Wilson Drug Co.
Fairview residents report visitors from Victoria last Wednesday. Miss Myrtie Rhodes and Lloyd Rhodes visited Abbott last week. Miss Amy Rubottom and Glen Rubottom visited Marshalltown Thursday. Mr and Mrs Hol Holland of Cambridge, Iowa, called at the Reid home last week.
Mr and Mrs Joe Ifuse visited at Rank Strahorns last Sunday. The Christian Aid Society will meet at Mrs John Levertons Thursday. O Windecker and Irvie Wilson went to St Louis this week to view the great exposition. At the handkerchief bazar given by the girls of the brary 23 were taken in. Editor Smith, in response to an invitation sent them a beautiful handkerchief, Mrs C Bird is slowly recovering from the effects of the shock she received the night of the fire. This family have the sympathy of the entire community In their bereavement. Buy Black Band coal sold only by Davis Moser.
CG A Miller and wife moved to the J A Miller farm last week, leasing it for the coming year. Mr and Mrs J A Michael and little daughter returned from a week at the St Louis exposition. Ira Lockard hosted a Friday birthday party with music and refreshments. Mrs Amos Cobb held a quilting party Wednesday and Thursday with many ladies attending and a delightful gathering.
Frank Beals of Kansas visited R. K E. Stubbs over Sunday. Mrs. Lizzie Hunt is convalescing after illness. Wm Wildman and wife came from Iowa Falls Tuesday. D. H. and J. H. Faris families in St. Louis this week. Alfred Michener out of school due to sickness. Mrs. 8. M. Hadley visiting Harvey Wadley’s family at Eldora. Bessie Wilson of Eldora staying with L. Reece’s family while parents attend world’s fair. Henry Hutler family left for Kansas to attend Friends meetings and visit relatives. Prof Styles, Rev Newby, Mrs Macy, Miss Fostenson and Mrs Andrews attended Friends Quarterly at Iowa Walls. N. P. A. football team played Industrial School, Industrial won 22 to 0.
D Nordman plans a sizable barn expansion. W O King, Parkersburg business visitor, attended Monday. J Isdebrands departed for Sibley Wednesday for a short visit. Mrs Lahne hosted the Robertson Flower club Tuesday. Anna Ludeman departed Tuesday.
