Cummins won Hardin County for governor by a 2,495 majority and a 2,723 plurality over Sullivan. Bolters defeated Republican nominees by small margins. 444 voters split to the batters ticket, reducing total state ticket support. County totals show Hanson 202, Work 17, Weller 9. Overall Iowa plurality for Cummins is 77,740.
Miss Mabel Duren teaches in Mrs. Fletcher’s absence while Miss Sarah Stokes arrives from Des Moines to start Nov 1. A 4,000 bushel potato crop, 2,000 bushels onions, and 20 000 bunches of celery have been harvested. Halloween included popcorn and apples. The Iowa Charity and Correction conference meets Nov 10–12 in Des Moines. reduced rail fares noted. Mason and Downs perform in chapel with nine southern graduates offering plantation songs to 250 boys. Board and state architect inspect new buildings and plan requested appropriations for the institution.
Robertson Freddie St George has a brand new buggy. George Cross and family visited in this vicinity last Sunday. Frank Johns and wife of Ackley were here Monday. Mesdames Quiggle and Huse visited Mrs Swartwood last Tuesday. Mrs I Klopp visited friends in Franklin county last Wednesday. Mr and Mrs George Stotser visited near Owasa last Sunday. Mrs L Leacher Ackley has been the guest of Mrs Swartwood this week. Mrs Elliott’s friends report she is improving. Mr and Mrs McClure from east of Eldora visited over Sunday at Joe Huse’s and attended church. Basily cured by Dean’s Ointment. 50 cents at any drug store.
Nice weather marks corn picking time as locals trade greetings. Visitors include Geo Rainy from Gelena visiting his sister Mrs. Day. Allen Crossen and wife from Clemons visiting relatives. Mrs. Campbell from Belle Plaine visiting her aunt Mrs. Putman and a sister at New Providence. Henry David and John LaMar of Shelby county came for the funeral of Kyran Dighton buried at Secor. Election era reflections follow with comments on money influence and ongoing old rivalries.
A prominent eastern firm will display cloaks at our store on November 11 inviting shoppers to attend this sale. The notice emphasizes a range from fine to cheap cloaks and urges attendance.
A proofsheet map from the upcoming Iowa state atlas will be shown at the county recorder’s office next week. Citizens are urged to view the map, point out errors, and offer corrections to ensure a perfect published map for Davenport and the county.
Howard Starr entered the high school Monday. Emma Nichols of Wellsburg entered the eighth grade Monday. Stanley Stuart returned after several days absence in Kansas City. The first quarterly exams began Wednesday afternoon and continued through the week. Students with a 90 or higher on the exam and an A in daily recitations who are not failing will be exempt from the semester exam. All students must take the examination.
H. W. Fannon announces a fare of one fare and a third for round trips to points on the Nickel Plate road with 150 rupees on sale, valid for return through November 30, 1903. Tickets at Le Salle Street Station Chicago and city offices 111 Adams Street and Auditorium Annex.
