A careful record of arrivals and departures in Eldora lists visitors and residents. IY. W. Fannon tended farm interests in Minnesota this week, J. I. Walker and Geo. Moser went to Missouri on business, and J. Sunter of Bode visited his nephew J. D. Tlunter. Mrs. C. Tucker of Shenandoah Iowa visits her sister Mrs. B. D. Robb for a month while Mrs. John Gardner of Grundy Center stays with friends. Rev. Jno. P. Clyde decides on call from Muscatine. high school athletes Bales Devendorf Fowler and Jonker with Ralphy Petty of Bristow traveled to Grinnell for the state meet. Henry Kelso of George Iowa called on relatives in Vidora, Frank Leslie and wife came from Towns to see friends, while Mrs. Patterson of Hawarden returned home after visiting her daughter.
Juniors hosted a banquet and baccalaureate services for seniors in town. A supervisor’s son suffered a severe arm injury after burning rubbish on Hubbard street when an explosion occurred. A fragment hit his face causing a serious wound.
A local merchant visits The Herald with a humorous poem. He jokes that Eldora shoppers fail to buy locally, preferring Marshalltown, Chicago, New York, London, and Paris, venting mild humor on misplaced shopping allotted to distant cities.
Montgomery, charged with bigamy in Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma, was recaptured under Mrs. Kate Wyeth’s residence in Guthrie after escaping jailers. He was wounded, shot by the jailer through the groin and by the jailer’s wife through the throat, following the jailer Jerry Emerson’s death.
May wedding at the bride’s parents home with Rev Gravengaard officiating. Christine wore white silk mull and roses. bridesmaids Mary Peterson Alma Peterson Inga Nelson Donna Madsen served refreshments. The couple left for a two week trip and will reside at 10th and Tremont. Attendees included Prof Chas Kuehne, Miss Lucy Kuehne, and other relatives from Radcliffe Eldora Fort Dodge Parkersburg Independence Cedar Falls Gazette. The Herald notes it is Hardin county's only semi weekly paper.
Congressman J A T Stull writes to Washington urging Des Moines become the rural mail delivery division headquarters for the middle western district. He cites eight-state scope, potential relocation of eight to ten staff, and that Des Moines would better handle correspondence, maps, and direction of the system. Omaha and Denver are alternative candidates as the debate continues.
The annual meeting of stockholders of the Midora Mutual Telephone Company will be held at W. S. Porter’s office on Monday June 1 1903 at 7 30 p m for the election of a board of directors and other business. Henneth A Terr Secretary May 19 1903.
