Patrons and others are invited to a 2 pm Friday event in the grammar grade rooms of city schools. The children's yearlong work will be exhibited, showcasing progress in various branches, with plans to attract a large turnout of patrons and friends.
High School pupils competed in the first annual contest directed by Prof. Hoyt at the Congregational church. Elizabeth Grieves won the gold medal and Rachel Wickham earned the silver, with Rev. C. C. Warner Aymer Davis and Miss Luella Albrook serving as judges. The event drew a large audience and praised Hoyt for his training work. the board regrets not securing him for another year.
The Herald records a half week of comings and goings across the community. Notables include visits by Rev W J Stanley to Oskaloosa for the G A R encampment and Mr Weaver of Owasa calling on the office. Others travel to Marshalltown Gillette Giljespie and Nebraska for family matters and court business.
The International Bioscope Co. performs next Friday May 26 at the Opera House with special photographers who capture local life motion scenes weeks in advance. The latest projecting instruments promise minimal flicker while showing fire department runs and a Des Moines parade. Market day sale planned at New Providence on May 18 with buyers including J. G. Kelly of Chicago seeking draft horses.
