Decoration Day Arrangements For Memorial Day 1903

Preparations underway for Memorial day observances with committees appointed to organize the Sunday May 24 memorial sermon by Rev. John P. Clyde and the May 30 exercises at Wisner opera house at 2 PM led by Rev. Elisha Brown Jones. Details include decorations by W R C and J N DeGroff, program planning by W C Moir and W R C members, graves marking by Stephen Burke and James Buchanan, and a reader for Lincoln's Gettysburg address. Citizens urged to close businesses and decorate with patriotic emblems. Choice dairy butter at 18 cents per pound at The New Store.

Visitors to Galveston visit from Houston for Cleveland Morse nuptials

Mr F F B Morse of Houston and relatives toured Galveston after attending the Cleveland Morse wedding. The party traveled in Morse’s private car to the Seawall City, enjoyed an excursion on the bay, a trolley ride, and visits to the seawall and Garten Verein. Local residents aided their entertainment and comfort.

Library Dedication With Gov Cummins Speech at Wisner

Public library dedication program set for Monday evening May 11 1903 at the Wisner Opera House with Gov A B Cummins delivering the address. Activities include transfer of building to the city keys delivered to the library board speeches by Myr E H Lundy My Milo Stunt and others, musical interludes, and a history of the library.

Dedication of Midora Public Library Building May 11 1903

An invitation announces the dedication at the Wisner Opera House on May 11 1903 at eight o clock with the Southland and high school chorus, reception at the library, and lists the library board and staff including Librarian Clara Estabrook and volunteer Ina Taylor. The document notes 225 of them were misled to outside parties.

25 Years Married Celebrated by Close Friends

Sawyer and Mrs. C. J. Albrook surprised by a Friday evening gathering of intimate friends in the Fourth ward to mark their 25th wedding anniversary. Guests included Capt. and Mrs. A. L. Harris, Pres. and Mrs. J. St. Bales, County Recorder and Mrs. C. O. Ryan, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Davis, and W. Murry of the Thirst National Bank. Tokens given included a silver carving set and a German silver watch with a long chain, the latter described as a unique token that will be kept at the Albrook home.

Plans filed for new church building on East site

Sunday at the Christian church plans were submitted for a new house of worship. The ground floor features a modernized auditorium and a west side lecture room with a finished basement, kitchen, and classrooms. The frame structure with brick veneer will sit on the east portion of the site, leaving a fine lawn, with dedication hoped for Sept. 6.

Dedication Day for Carnegie Library Visit by Governor Cummins

Mayor Exquis D. Roun of Eldora Iowa announces plans for May 11 1903 when Governor Albert B Cummins will dedicate the new Carnegie free public library. Citizens urged to display patriotic emblems and close businesses during flag presentation at the library. Selected fresh eggs 13 cents per dozen at The New Store.

Young and Cummins Back Iowa Road Policy

Col Lafe Young editor of the Des Moines Capital spoke at the St. Louis good roads convention praising a plan that would keep road building funded by taxpayers who use them. He argued the federal government should not bear wagon road duties, then Gov A B Cummins echoed the stance, pleasing Iowa delegates and aligning with Sioux City Journal editorial tone urging independent public support for road work ahead of political conventions.
