The Herald item notes I O O F memorial services set for next Sunday June 18. All order members wishing to participate should meet at Odd Fellows Hall at p m sharp. By order of the N G WB Gardner. Additional names and scattered phrases follow, including references to local figures and towns.
The fourth combination sale of the Bidora Sale Co. will be held at the feed barn of F. S. Near, Saturday, June 24. Horses and stock will be offered. many prices, and silver on hand. S. R. Walker, ELS, Near, W. H. Martin, Committee.
A Radcliffe Iowa man Hans Peterson was injured when a small stone shattered a car window on a bound train in Colorado. Glass fragments struck his forehead and eye, and local doctors fear possible vision loss. Also noted is Harry Montgomery claiming an invention enabling walking on water through leg attachments, with the Herald unsure of details.
After returning from Kansas, Allison announces availability at 4618 W. JS to quote on all carpentry jobs including new work and repairs. Call to discuss plans and figures for every class of woodwork.
Dr E G Jones of Whit ney Jones and Miss Clara Baskin fled town on Thursday by Iowa Central train. At Marshalltown they secured a marriage license and began plans for a private ceremony with a local officiant. The union between a city’s renowned physician and a notable resident drew wide interest.
The wedding of the doctor and his bride is described with plans for a post graduate course in the East after a pleasure tour. They will likely return to Eldora to settle, resuming practice among friends. The Herald extends best wishes for a happy future. A midweek roundup of social and business comings and goings from Eldora and nearby towns reports visits, weddings, and travels. Names include J H Scalis, Mrs Wenham, Mr and Mrs Barnes, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Townsend, Chas Moser, Rev C C Warner, Frank Wingert, Sadie Forc, and many others. Activities span visits to Marshalltown, Des Moines, Grinnell, Ottumwa, Iowa Falls, and Portland as residents travel for weddings, commencements, and church or lodge events.
Miss Julia Scurry will teach primary methods at the Carroll county normal institute next week as she did last year. She plans to spend several weeks in institute work before a period of rest, with services in high demand across the state. Mrs. C. E. Petty and Mrs. H. W. Fannon departed for Cincinnati last evening.
Secretary Martin of the Hardin County Agricultural Society secured Marshalltown and Waterloo teams from the Iowa State League to move their regular Thursday and Friday games, September 7 and 8, from Marshalltown to Eldora. The matches are billed as a major fair attraction drawing local baseball fans and attendees of the county fair.
The Herald reports from Hardin County and nearby areas about visits to the Modlin home by Rev and Mrs B A Davis of Whit ten, the funeral of Mrs Willcox in Melrose, Chester Wigan recovering from an ankle sprain, a bumper strawberry picking by L A Daggett, Bessie and Ethel Bevins staying with their uncle through summer, and Children’s Day events at the East Side church with Sunday school as usual and no preaching that evening.
Minerva Dudley daughter of the late Henry and Mrs Dudley of New Providence died May 29 from a stroke. She taught 31 years in Hardin and Marshall counties and four more in Kansas Massachusetts and Wyoming. Last words to friends were I am ready heaven. Survived by brother Philip Dudley of New Providence and sister Mrs Frank O Baldwin of Massachusetts. Go to Petty's for shoes and stockings.
Miss Lathrop of Abbott stays with Mrs Abbas this week as farmers plow corn in warm weather. A large audience attended the Iowa Falls show. W A Wickham and family visited Iowa Falls friends last Sunday. Mr and Mrs Hall and Miss Nellie Hall of Iowa Falls visited Clifford Maden's home. The Willing Workers plan a Japanese social at Clifford Maden's home on Tuesday June 20, weather permitting a lawn event.
Mrs Emma Grant hosts Saturday eore evening gathering with Mrs John Hutson and two children visiting H F Johnson and wife at their Union home. Jennie Whitney attended Steamboat Rock Sunday. Robt Collins advertises cat sales and delivery at good prices. W S Barnard traveled to Eagle Grove for a CNW brakeman position. Robt Miller and family visit Mia Miller's parents. Inez Minton and W Barnard visit Jen Nie Whitney's country home for two weeks and enjoy rural life.
An ordinance bans bicycle riding on the sidewalks and will be strictly enforced from this date. Citizens are asked to take notice and govern themselves accordingly. Guo, F. Guay, Mayer.
Eldora officials warn that no common fire crackers larger than three inches shall be set off on streets or public parks on July 4. One violation will be punished according to the ordinance. Mayor G. E. Gimow presides.
Sealed bids for grading part of South Washington street Tidorn Town are due June 28 1904. Bids opened publicly at the country chamber in the evening. About 1200 yards of dirt to be removed. Specifications available at city water works office. Committee reserves right to reject all bids. J A Borsack chairman.
Dell Wright leads the league event next Sunday evening. J Wick and family visited Albert Lynk's near Iowa Falls on Sunday. Roy Bradfield of Williame visited his uncle Rolla Hughes on Wednesday. The L A S will meet with Mrs. Addie Hoyt next Thursday afternoon. Miss Sadie Adams plans to leave for Iowa City next Thursday to attend school. The ice cream sociable at the Hayden home Tuesday evening was well attended, $8.10 was cleared. An eleven pound baby girl was born.
