Wm. Riley Craig of Gifford, Civil War veteran and longtime resident, was struck by a south bound freight train near Union while crossing to reach the depot. His defective eyesight is noted as a factor. He died instantly. funeral planned. Survived by wife, two sons Ralph and Charles, daughters Mrs Henry Poole, Mrs William Abbott, Mrs Wilbur Adams, and sister Mrs E B Waton. brother John Craig in Germania.

Heavy cement curbing is being constructed along the terrace outside the sidewalk in front of the courthouse park on Lynn Street. The parking has been narrowed somewhat and, when the curbing is completed, will present a very nice appearance. Nevada Evening Journal report.

Huge fossil bone sent to Dr Morse from Nebraska
Dr Morse displays a giant mastodon thigh bone found in Dawes County Nebraska by John Miller of Eldora. The 27 inch bone, restored from pieces, suggests a 14 foot tall animal. other fossils include a rhinoceroslike tooth from Gifford gravel pit. Specimens may be donated to a college.

Reunion in Yankton after forty six years apart
William Thomas, former Jackson township resident, met his cousin Edward Palmer in Yankton South Dakota after not seeing him since boyhood days in Dubuque county. The meeting occurred at the depot as Palmer, a civil engineer, boarded an eastbound train. Palmer is a brother of Mrs. John Graham of Eldora and lived in Dubuque county before the Civil War.
