Pleasure ride accident on Jasper street near Presbyterian church
Mrs. Carl S. Newcomer and Mrs. C. L. Kersey and a child were riding in the Newcomer carriage Monday evening when a street obstacle, a sharp grade, and a sudden start tipped the carriage and threw the occupants into the street. The women suffered facial and head bruises and cuts, one of Mrs. Kersey’s hands was cut, but no serious injuries are expected. the child was not hurt. Also noted is a fishing report: May 15 was slow, but James Ferris, visiting Eldora, caught two fine pickerel of ten and seven pounds, with a pike nibbling. Walt Whalen, Beach, and Fred Muftley also caught pike and pickerel, including a ten-pound pickerel.

Schultz’s Enjoined By Judge Evans In Ackley Druggist Case
Judge Evans granted an injunction against H C Schultz of Ackley stopping further sales of intoxicating liquors under his permit. Proceedings were heard in Hampton after arguments by County Attorney Seaton for the State and J H Scales for Schultz. Judge Evans announced his finding on a recent Saturday and notified the county attorney.

First Hard Summer on a Farm in 1858 Illinois
J M Fisher recalls early labor on an Illinois farm in 1858 earning sixteen dollars a month for eight months. He was paid with wildcat money, and the next day half the notes were worthless when deposited. He kept the bills as keepsakes from the Great West.

Oldest Hardin county resident visits town after months
Mr. R. T. Ward of Iowa Falls, among Hardin county’s oldest citizens, first settled at Georgion in 185 and, as The Herald reports, was the county’s first to file naturalization papers before Judge Thompson. A Democrat, he was popular enough to win election in a Republican era. His wife died years ago and he now lives with a daughter in the scenic city.

For the week ending June 6 105 Des Moines Iowa reports the best week of the season with below normal rainfall and above normal temperatures.
