Community notices mix with court matters, fires and illnesses. Eldora readers learn of upcoming events at M. E. church Hubbard Hubbard market days and whist club, court sessions, local deaths, births, and business updates, with brief weather and transport notes and advertisements for jobs printing and real estate.
A half week report in the Herald notes residents and visitors in town. Frank DeMarsha of Ratcliffe arrived as a witness in a court case. John J. Russell of the American Express Company visited on business. Toby L. Penn of Gifford and Mrs Effie Clinton of Rough Woods hosted relatives in Eldora. M S Sylvest of Iowa Falls and Chint J Wilson of Union were seen on business. Mrs Hattie J Rhodes returned from Chicago and Bessie went to Marshalltown. Lawyers Almon of Chicago and Swisher of Waterloo attended to district court business. Frank D Peet of the Iowa Falls National Bank was in town.
The report notes limited unrest in St Petersburg and Moscow with workers promised higher wages, but lingering hostility toward Czar Nicholas. It mentions a brutal Sunday toll and references a local health ad before describing The Heart of Chicago melodrama at Wisner Opera House with strong scenery and a vivid Chicago fire scene.
A note to Herald readers from Carn S. Newcomen states arrangements with a large trust company allow provision of money for Har din county first mortgage loans. He invites contact for any needs and mentions offering all kinds of noon insurance.
The program for the county educational meeting to be held in Union Friday evening and Saturday forenoon and afternoon is being prepared by County Superintendent Mrs Hila B Chassell and will be published next week. Prof Horn of Grinnell College will deliver the main address Friday evening with Ackley and Mason and Whitten schools contributing. The event will be in a Union church, sessions aim to be educational and well attended by locals. Also note horse day at the Hubbard market next Thursday February 2.
