Death of Michael Doyle Aged Resident of Jackson Township

Michael Doyle, an elderly Jackson township resident and early county settler, died Thursday after years of illness. A native of Ireland, he leaves a wife and grown children. Funeral services were held Monday at St Marys Catholic Church, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.

Uncle Benj Walton Dies at 86 in Eldora Area

One of Nordin County's oldest citizens, Uncle Benj Walton, died at his home six miles southeast of Eldora after a brief illness. Funeral and interment were held yesterday. The Herald could not verify rumors of poisoning via coffee substitute. physician cites Bright's disease as the cause.

Church Notes Special Meetings Continue At M E Church

The M E church will hold nightly meetings all week with the pastor preaching each night except Friday when Elder W F Pitney D D will deliver the sermon. Friday evening features a quarterly conference after service. Sunday program includes Sunday School at 10, Communion at 11, Love Feast at 6 40 and preaching at 7 30 by the presiding elder.

Mirage At Union Woods Appear Inverted In Sky

Residents of Union Saturday witnessed mirage over the east, showing an inverted landscape with farms, woods, and houses. The optical illusion, common over oceans and deserts, was brief and observed by several locals. Nearby reports recount John Krall’s arrest for being a rank and disorderly. he escaped a second story window and was recaptured, then jailed.

Saw Mill Started Near Town With Bridge Lumber Focus

Lon and Bart Meeks and J A Wosfern hauled a sled load of supplies Monday to a saw mill six miles southwest of town that began working yesterday. Mr Meeks says all timber can be sawed, with a specialty in bridge lumber, and an abundance of timber nearby should yield much good lumber.

Wise Brothers Take Over Webster City Drug Store

Mr Devendorf plans to retain his residence in Webster City for now while J L Wise of the new firm assumes full control until his brother arrives next summer. The brother is in Havana, Cuba, attending to business. The Wise brothers are experienced druggists and IT L Wise is a pleasant, reliable local member expected to secure a full share of the Webster City drug trade.

Educational Meeting Attended by Thousands at Union

An educational meeting at Union February 3 and 4 drew about five thousand attendees. Proceedings featured lectures by Prof. OA Worn of Grinnell on the Teacher’s Bank, Prof. J. F. Stout of Mt. Vernon, and papers by Mrs. Donaldson and Miss Cox. The event showcased strong interest and discussions, with many teachers engaged and a large closing session.

The people of Union and vicinity show high appreciation for education. Mrs. Chussell schedules an educational meeting at Buckeye on Friday evening and Saturday February 10 and 11. An interesting program is planned and good time is expected. Buckeye is accessible to Radcliffe Alden Lowa Halls and nearby navy country points.

School Programs Highlight Weekly Academic Activities

Miss Bess Cobb visited the local school as grades prepare programs for Washington’s birthday. The 12th grade English literature will study Macbeth after Julius Caesar. High and grammar teachers attended a Union conven tion with students presenting drawings, handwork, and vramipar. The Eldora Leebure Course sixth number features the Dunbar Company, a male quartet and bell ringers led by Ralph Dunbar, at Wisner opera house in February. The Whinbars have appeared in the city up to five times.
