A compilation of community updates from the Herald covering snow, farming, curfew laws, births, retirements, and local business moves. town reports include Dr Diehl Kier dentistry, Mr Lightfield baby, A W Smith trading a bowling alley for a livery barn, and Hardin county R F D carriers minutes. Also notes on coal shortages, school fuel issues, and local ads.
The Eldora Public Library marked its twenty fifth founding anniversary in a new building with addresses by Prof. Craine and Miss Tyler of Des Moines. A 2:30 reception welcomed teachers and pupils, followed by a 7:00 open house and program featuring the Industrial school orchestra. Executive remarks praised the library and its staff.
The Mardin county Agricultural Society held its annual meeting in the court room on Wednesday afternoon with good attendance. President Robi Smith led a harmonious meeting, reports showed the society solvent after minor debt, officers were elected with Smith as president and Martin as secretary, Murray as treasurer, and the group expressed confidence in a stronger next year’s Hardin county fair. Dr. B B Purcell announced eye, ear, nose and throat services at Emergency hospital on December Ist and lth.
Mrs. David Clark, mother of Mina and Charley Clark of the bus line, died at her home in the city on Thursday after a prolonged cancer illness. Survived by her husband and two sons. No obituary data available. will be prepared in next issue. Creditors urged to settle accounts at the old Wilson Drug Co. stand.
Report of the December 2 1903 wedding of Frank A. Smith and Edith Haas at the Haas home Melrose township Grundy county officiated by Rev George B Shoemaker. Guests shared heart felt congratulations and a wedding feast. The couple will farm the Haas homestead. Presents were numerous. Also an advertisement for 700 pounds of honey at 12 cents per pound at Kannon's this week only.
The Sunday school board elected Superintendent C. O. Ryan assistant superintendent Chas Moser secretary Karl Borsack treasurer N R Van Avery and organist Vivian Thamer L B Cotin known as Father Conin will speak next Sunday at our church on Care for the ex Prisoner in the morning and Anti Saloon Work in the State at a union meeting in the evening Epworth League devotional at 6 30 pm with the topic Lost and a Helpless a Man Without Christ Leader Niss Ella Boyer
Karl Germaine the wizard performed two hours of rapid, clever feats at Wisner Opera House on Wednesday evening thrilling an expectant audience. His genial personality and wit enhanced the show, which followed the entertainment standards of the course.
