Eldora and Hardin county items cover fair openings and decline in population, local races results, marriage notices, school officials arrivals, and infrastructure notes. The Eldora team beat Iowa Falls 7 to 8 at Ackley. Whitten edged Story City 4 to 3. pending fair improvements loom. Local business notices include bank plans and real estate moves, with social notes on weddings and illnesses amid a busy weekly digest.
A half week’s social business and personal movements in Grinnell are chronicled with many local names. Residents and visitors including Mrs C C Sheakley, Bern Boylan and wife, Miss Dic St John, J M Furman, Miss M Pearl Bowdish, W J Murray, G F Smith, Jno Haas, P F Brown, County Attorney F H Noble, Rev Jas Burling and others are noted with travel, visits, and errands. Also listed are local events, a concert program at the Congregational church, and an advertisement for Hollister’s Rocky Mountain Tea.
The August term of Hardin District Court, presided by Judge Evans, opens next Monday for a three week session. The docket is large with 19 state cases including appeals, 74 old cases, 85 new cases, 80 probate and 18 will cases. Grand and petit jurors are summoned to appear Tuesday as trials begin. The standout state case is State of Iowa vs Edwin O Soule. Davis and Moser advertise Wheel er screens with a 10 day trial and money back if unsatisfactory.
Ackley observes Sauer kraut day with free street amusements, band music, races, balloon ascensions, and a mishap of missing kraut supply. A lively late evening with dances follows, as vendors crowd the main street and visitors seek meals at fair prices. Several horse racing classes are listed for Hardin County Fair in August with multiple entries and owners from Iowa towns.
Threshing operators are urged to try the New Kentucky soft coal at the Iowa Central elevator to fuel summer harvest work. The ad highlights improved burning efficiency and coasted heating for farm engines and threshers.
Miss Grace Carter and Miss Grace Davis present a reading impersonation and a vocal piano recital at the Congregational church on Tuesday evening next August 23. Admission is 26 cents. Buy a ticket and attend.
